I have been drinking in this city's pubs since long before I started guiding around them, and I still think the Turf Tavern is the best way to explain what mediaeval Oxford actually felt like. On camera I like showing how narrow the alley leading to it is, since nothing conveys the old street pattern better than squeezing a phone through it. The Eagle and Child gets almost as much of my time, mostly because the Tolkien and Lewis story never fails to interest people who arrive knowing nothing else about the city. I keep my sessions short and let the buildings do most of the talking.
