I grew up going to the Barras with my grandmother most Saturdays, so that market is where most of my East End sessions start. On camera I try to show the stalls the way they actually are, some sharp, some a bit worn round the edges, rather than tidying the picture up. I worked in the market myself for a couple of years before training as a guide, so I know a fair number of the regular traders by name. Guiding on video has taught me to slow my speech down, since the accent and the pace of a market can be a lot to follow through a screen.
