My family is from Njeguši, the village above Kotor where they smoke the pršut in wooden sheds with beech wood, and I still help my uncle every November. I drove a taxi in Budva for years before I got my guide licence, so I know the road up the serpentine very well, all twenty-five bends. The first climbs to Lovćen and the Njegoš mausoleum, then down to Njeguši for ham, cheese and a glass of rakija, and on to Cetinje, the old royal capital with its embassies that look like villas.
