I studied architecture with a particular interest in how buildings can be carved rather than only built, which is exactly what drew me to guiding the rock church years ago. On camera I hold on the raw granite walls, blasted rather than bricked, and explain why the architects chose to leave the stone unfinished rather than smoothing it away. I point out the copper dome resting on the rock itself rather than a conventional roofline. I keep the pace slow around the texture of the stone, since that detail is easy to miss in a quick pass.
