I studied art history and the Church of São Francisco is where I send that training the furthest, even though the gilded interior stays off camera. On camera I hold the shot on the plain Gothic exterior, which gives no hint of what is inside, and explain honestly what the gilded woodwork and the ossuary beneath the church actually look like. I keep a slow, careful pace, since the contrast between outside and inside is the whole point of the session. I answer questions about the building's history and its unusual ossuary as directly as I can.
