I grew up above one of the restaurants on Brick Lane and I still know most of the kitchens by their smell alone before I even see the sign. My sessions run in the early evening as the street lights come on and the restaurant touts start their pitches, since that hour tells you more about the street than a quiet afternoon walk. I explain how the buildings themselves have changed religion and community more than once, from chapel to synagogue to mosque, without any of it being knocked down. Viewers usually leave with a much longer list of places to actually eat than I can cover in one call.
