Rita Pestana

I worked behind a fruit stall in the Mercado dos Lavradores for nine years before I started guiding, so I know most of the sellers by name and which ones will let me film their scales weighing custard apples and maracujá. My video sessions move between the market and a few streets nearby where bolo do caco is still baked on a hot basalt stone the old way. I like to let the sellers speak for themselves on camera rather than talking over them, since they explain their own stalls better than I ever could. Food here is loud and visual, and I think the camera should stay close.
