Rubén Castro

I trained as a set designer before I started guiding, so I notice buildings that have been repurposed more than buildings built for one job from the start. On camera I favour CaixaForum's converted power station and Matadero Madrid's old slaughterhouse buildings over the more obvious museums, since fewer people know what either used to be. I explain what stayed and what changed when each building found its new use, which is usually more interesting than the art shown inside on a given week. I keep my sessions outdoors and in the public courtyards, since that is where the architecture actually speaks for itself.
