Ruben Kramer

Ruben here. I am a bike mechanic by training and I ran a rental shop in Amsterdam-West for four years, so if your chain comes off on a dyke I can fix it in two minutes. I grew up in Purmerend, just north of the city, which means I spent my teens cycling through Waterland in the wind, and that countryside is what I show people. The city centre I leave to other guides. I like the polders, the old fishing villages, the cows standing in the fog and the cafés where farmers drink coffee at seven in the morning. I speak Dutch, English and Spanish, which I learned during two winters working in Valencia. My tours are active but not a race. If the forecast says storm, I will move your date rather than drag you through it. Now I show Amsterdam live on a video call, phone in hand, and I answer questions as they come.
