I swim the Aare most summer mornings before anyone else is out, so I know exactly where the current picks up speed and where it eases off near the bridges. On camera I follow the bears at BärenPark first, since their enclosure sits right on the way down to the water, then show the stretch where locals let the current carry them downstream. I trained as a biology teacher before guiding, and I still explain the river the way I once explained an ecosystem to a classroom. I keep sessions close to the water's edge, since that is where Bern's summer life happens. I never rush the bears.
