My family has fished out of Câmara de Lobos for three generations, and the harbour where Churchill once set up his easel is still where my uncles keep their boats. I take viewers along the cliff path above the village on camera, then down to the painted boats and the small chapel by the water, explaining how the fishermen go out at night for scabbardfish in deep water offshore. I speak slowly because I am translating in my head between Portuguese and English as I go. What I enjoy about video guiding is that people who could never manage the cliff steps still get to see exactly what I see.
