I have guided people around Kaunas Castle since long before video calls existed, and I still notice a new brick pattern most seasons once the frost loosens something. On camera I like comparing the genuinely medieval parts with the sections rebuilt in the twentieth century, because the difference tells its own story about how Lithuania has cared for its history. Inside the old town's two great churches I slow right down under the vaulting, since the scale rarely comes across on a small screen unless the camera stays steady. I studied history in Vilnius and I am happiest answering questions I was not expecting.
