Torsten Fischer

I grew up in West Berlin within sight of the wall, and I still find it strange explaining a barrier that once ran straight through streets I now walk freely every day. My sessions cover the Berlin Wall Memorial, the murals at the East Side Gallery and the barrier's stranger afterlife at Mauerpark, where the death strip is now a flea market. On camera I try to show the tangible trace of the wall wherever it survives, since a map alone never quite gets across how a city was cut in two. I keep a steady pace and welcome questions from people with their own memories of the period.
