Vicent Soler

My father fished out of the port of Valencia for thirty years, and my mother still lives in the house I grew up in, a narrow tiled one on Carrer de Josep Benlliure in the Cabanyal. In the late nineties the city wanted to run an avenue straight through the neighbourhood, and I spent my teenage years watching my neighbours fight it. They won. That story is the reason I became a guide. I studied history at the Universitat de València, worked at the Museu de Belles Arts for a few years, and have guided full time since 2017. I speak Valencian, Spanish, English and French. I like dates, numbers and the reasons behind them, so my tours lean on history more than on anecdotes. I also like silence in the right places, such as the trading hall of the Silk Exchange, where I usually stop talking for a minute and let people look up at the columns.
