Yasmin Hassan

I grew up in Nørrebro when the neighbourhood was still mostly working class immigrant families, so I have watched its food scene change block by block over twenty years. On camera I walk a stretch of Nørrebrogade, stopping at small kitchens representing several different national cuisines that have settled here since the 1970s. I explain which shops have stayed since my childhood and which arrived only recently as the area has changed. I keep my sessions close to the counters themselves rather than the wider street. Filming this neighbourhood through food shows its layered history better than architecture alone would.
