Highlights

  • A strict garden read from the house
  • An orangery wall built to hold heat
  • Two garden styles, deliberately opposed
  • Clipped hedges and looser planting compared
  • A garden most visitors rush through

About this tour

This session moves through the gardens at Pavillon de Vendôme, from the strict, symmetrical parterre near the house to the looser planting at the far end. You see the orangery wall with its heating vents and the deliberate contrast between the two garden styles. It is a slower, detail-led look at a garden most people walk through in minutes.

We spend real time at each stop rather than covering the whole garden quickly, since the interest is in the small choices rather than the size of the place. I answer questions about the planting or the house as they come up and will step closer to anything someone wants a better look at. A short note on the garden's history follows the call.

This suits anyone with an interest in gardens or landscape design, without needing prior knowledge. It also works well as a calmer session between busier walks.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Aix-en-Provence before heading out.

  2. The formal parterre 17 min

The camera looks down the clipped hedges of the formal garden in front of Pavillon de Vendôme, laid out in strict symmetrical beds. I explain why this style of garden was meant to be seen from the house's upper windows.

  3. The orangery wall 17 min

Along one side, you see the tall wall that once sheltered orange trees through winter, a detail many visitors walk straight past. I point out the vents built into the stonework to manage the heat inside.

  4. The wilder edge 17 min

At the garden's far end, the planting loosens into something closer to scrubland, a deliberate contrast to the strict beds near the house. I explain how the two styles were meant to be read against each other.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Aix-en-Provence: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Daube provençale and Quartier Mazarin, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
