Atlanterhavsparken's seal pool, from outside
Highlights
- An aquarium built into the coastal rock
- An open-air seal pool
- Marine life, explained by a biologist
- A feeding routine, described in detail
- The sea, at the edge of town
About this tour
This session looks at Atlanterhavsparken, Ålesund's coastal aquarium, from outside the building and around its outdoor seal pool. You see the building set into the rock at the edge of town and the seals in their open-air pool. Ragnhild draws on her marine biology training to describe what is kept inside without the camera entering.
She keeps the session fairly brisk outside the building, then slows at the seal pool since the animals themselves hold attention. Questions about specific species come up regularly, and she answers with detail from her own background.
This suits anyone interested in marine life who wants context before or instead of a visit. It pairs with Ragnhild's longer session at the Sunnmøre Museum for a fuller look at the region's relationship with the sea.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Ålesund before heading out.
-
Aquarium exterior 15 min
The camera looks at the aquarium building set into the coastal rock, and I describe some of the fish and invertebrates kept inside without the camera going through the doors.
-
Outdoor seal pool 15 min
Outside, the seal pool sits open to the weather, and I explain the feeding routine without ever handling the animals myself on camera.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Ålesund: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Brown cheese (brunost) and Aspøy, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
