An Art Deco cinema from the outside in, live
Highlights
- A 1920s cinema built with rare decorative detail
- An ornate facade mixing several styles
- Original decoration visible through the entrance
- A slow, detail-focused look at one building
- Useful before catching a film there yourself
About this tour
This session looks at one of the city's most striking buildings, a 1920s cinema built with a level of decorative detail rarely seen even in grander buildings of its time. You see the ornate facade from the street and then, through the glass doors, a glimpse of the lobby where much of the original decoration has survived. It is a short, detail-focused session about one building.
We spend most of the time on the facade, since the exterior detail alone takes a while to properly take in, then pause at the entrance for the view through the doors. I keep the pace slow given how much there is to actually look at.
It suits design and architecture-minded viewers who enjoy detail-heavy buildings. It also works well for anyone deciding whether to catch a film there themselves later.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Amsterdam before heading out.
-
Tuschinski Facade 15 min
You see an ornate 1920s facade mixing several decorative styles, and I explain how unusual it was for a cinema of its time to be built with this much detail.
-
Lobby Through the Doors 15 min
The camera looks through the glass entrance doors from the street, and I point out original decorative details in the lobby that have survived largely unchanged for a century.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Amsterdam: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Stroopwafel and De Pijp, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
