About this tour

This session follows Gençlik Parkı from its central lake to the shaded paths planted soon after the park was built. You see the artificial lake first, part of a deliberate plan for the new capital, then paths lined with trees that have since grown into the park's defining feature. The session is a quieter contrast to the government buildings nearby.

I begin with a sound check by the lake, then we move along the paths while you ask questions about the park's history. I keep the pace relaxed, since the park rewards a slower walk. Afterwards I send a short note on what we discussed.

This suits anyone who wants a green, unhurried side of Ankara after a morning of monuments. It also suits a traveller curious about the city's early planning decisions.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Ankara before heading out.

  2. Park Lake 21 min

The camera follows the edge of the artificial lake at the centre of the park. I explain why a lake was built here as part of the young Republic's plans for the capital.

  3. Tree-Lined Paths 21 min

You follow shaded paths planted not long after the park opened. I point out how the trees have grown to shape the park's character today.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Ankara: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ankara tava (lamb and potato casserole) and Hamamönü, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
