Highlights

  • Horseshoe towers of the city gate
  • A colonnaded street with a water channel
  • Curved seating of the old stadium
  • Column bases marking the old shops
  • A full Roman city, laid out clearly

About this tour

This longer session moves through Perge from its gate to the old marketplace, covering the colonnaded street and stadium in between. You see the horseshoe towers of the gate, the long street with its central water channel, the curved stadium seating, and finally the column bases marking the old shops of the agora. Each stop adds to a clearer picture of daily life in this Roman city.

I begin with a sound check at the gate, then we move through the site stop by stop while you ask questions about the layout. I slow down at the colonnaded street, since the water channel is easy to miss without it being pointed out. Afterwards I send a written note on the sequence of stops.

This suits anyone with a genuine interest in Roman city planning rather than a quick overview. It also suits a traveller comparing Perge with Aspendos before deciding which to prioritise.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Antalya before heading out.

  2. Perge City Gate 21 min

The camera looks through the horseshoe-shaped towers of the old city gate. I explain how the design was more for show than defence by the time it was built.

  3. Colonnaded Street 21 min

You follow the long street lined with columns and a water channel down the middle. I point out how the channel would have kept the street cool in summer.

  4. Stadium Remains 21 min

The camera settles on the curved seating of the old stadium. I explain what kind of events would have been held here.

  5. Agora Ruins 21 min

We finish at the old marketplace, with column bases still marking out the shops that once lined it. I point out how the layout tells us what the space was used for.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Antalya: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Şiş köfte and Muratpaşa, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 6 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
