The amphitheatre to the Camargue's edge
Highlights
- A nearly two-thousand-year-old amphitheatre
- Seating tiers still visible from outside
- A landscape shifting within minutes
- The wetlands' edge, reeds and open water
- Seventy-five minutes from Roman ruins to marsh
About this tour
This session moves from the Roman amphitheatre at the heart of Arles to the edge of the Camargue wetlands just beyond the town. You see the arena's arched exterior before the landscape opens into flat marshland within a short distance. Solène, who grew up on the edge of the Camargue, explains how quickly the scenery shifts once the Roman streets end.
The call opens with a sound check at the amphitheatre, then moves steadily out toward the wetlands. Solène keeps a warm, unhurried pace and lets the landscape set the rhythm rather than rushing between the two very different settings. A short list of the stops follows by message once the session ends.
This suits anyone curious about both Arles' Roman history and its natural surroundings in one session. It also works well as an introduction before a longer visit to the Camargue itself.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Arles before heading out.
-
Arènes d'Arles exterior 17 min
The camera takes in the Roman amphitheatre's arched exterior from the square below, still used for events nearly two thousand years after it was built. I point out the tiers still visible from outside where seating once continued higher.
-
Road toward the wetlands 17 min
You see the town give way gradually to flat, open marshland just beyond its edges. I explain how quickly the landscape shifts once you leave the Roman streets behind.
-
First view of the marshes 17 min
The camera settles on the wetlands' edge, reeds and shallow water stretching toward the horizon. I point out the kind of birds most likely to be visible at this time of year.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Arles: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Gardiane de taureau and Centre historique, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
