  • Stadiou Street's neoclassical bank facades
  • Old arcades from the city's busiest era
  • Athens architecture beyond the ancient ruins

About this tour

This walk covers the ornate former mansion housing the Numismatic Museum before continuing down Stadiou Street's grand old facades. Anna explains how the mansion was built for a wealthy nineteenth century archaeologist before becoming a public museum. She then shows how Stadiou Street's banks and arcades reflect a period when this was the busiest commercial street in Athens.

Anna checks the connection outside the mansion, holding the camera up toward the painted window frames before moving down the street. She answers questions about the building's history and points out specific facades along Stadiou as she walks. A short list of the buildings seen follows by message.

This suits anyone interested in nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture who wants a route away from the ancient sites. It also works well paired with a walk through nearby Syntagma.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
