Klosterbräu, Bamberg's oldest brewery
Highlights
- A brewing licence from the fifteenth century
- Bamberg's oldest brewery, still pouring
- Smoked and unsmoked, compared directly
- A brewing rivalry centuries in the making
- Franconian beer history, cask by cask
About this tour
This session covers Klosterbräu, reputedly Bamberg's oldest brewery, tracing its licence back to the fifteenth century. You see the historic entrance and hear how its unsmoked style differs from its more famous rival across town. It is a comparative look at one town's two brewing traditions.
I move at a relaxed pace between the facade and the explanation of the beer itself, keeping the comparison clear throughout. Questions are welcome, and I send a short note afterwards on both breweries' histories.
This suits anyone curious about brewing traditions rather than only tasting the result. It also pairs well with the Schlenkerla session for the fuller local picture.
Included

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
