Schlenkerla's smoked beer, cask to glass
Highlights
- Beer poured straight from oak casks
- A smoking process centuries old
- Bamberg's most distinctive local drink
- Smoke explained glass by glass
- A tavern pouring the same way for generations
About this tour
This session looks at Schlenkerla's smoked beer from cask to glass, at a tavern that has poured it for centuries. You see the oak casks up close and then a glass poured straight from one of them. It is a focused look at one distinctive local drink rather than a wider tavern crawl.
I stay close on the casks and the pour throughout, explaining the smoking process as we go. Questions about the beer are welcome, and I send a short note afterwards on where else to try it.
This suits anyone curious about unusual regional beer styles. It also pairs well with the Klosterbräu session for a fuller taste of Bamberg's brewing history.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later

Questions about this tour
What will the session cover?

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
