About this tour

This session follows Barcelona's Modernista route from Passeig de Gràcia to the Sagrada Família, from the Block of Discord to the courtyards of Hospital de Sant Pau and the basilica's exterior. The camera stays outside every building, reading the facades the way Gaudí and his contemporaries meant them to be read from the street. An architect who works on the Sagrada Família joins for the final stop to explain what still needs to be built.

The call opens with a short sound check, then follows the route building by building, with time for questions about the architecture along the way. A short list of the buildings and their architects follows by message once the call ends.

This suits anyone interested in architecture or in Gaudí's work specifically, whether planning a visit to Barcelona or simply curious from home. It also suits anyone who wants an architect's perspective on a building still under construction.

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Barcelona before heading out.

  2. Block of Discord 21 min

Passeig de Gràcia's Block of Discord lines up buildings by rival Modernista architects side by side, and the guide stops at Casa Batlló's dragon-backed facade and Casa Milà's rippling stone front to explain what set each one apart.

  3. Hospital de Sant Pau 21 min

Further along, the courtyards of Hospital de Sant Pau show Modernisme applied to a working hospital rather than a private house, tiled pavilions arranged around gardens instead of a single block.

  4. Sagrada Família exterior 21 min

The walk ends outside the Sagrada Família with an architect who works on the building, explaining its exterior and how construction, still ongoing since 1882, decides what gets built next.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Barcelona: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Escalivada and El Born, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
