Plaça del Rei and the city beneath it
Highlights
- A medieval square built over Roman streets
- An underground city, explained from outside
- Layers of Barcelona, stacked on one spot
- A well known square's hidden foundation
- Roman streets beneath medieval stone
About this tour
This session looks at Plaça del Rei from street level, a medieval square sitting directly above excavated Roman streets. You see the square itself and, from outside its museum entrance, an explanation of what the underground walkway below actually connects. It links a well known square to the city buried beneath it.
I stay in the square and move to the museum entrance for context, explaining the excavation without going inside it. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards.
This suits anyone curious about what lies beneath Barcelona's medieval streets. It also pairs well with a session on the Roman wall and temple columns nearby.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
