  • Development limited for centuries
  • A quieter side of Belgrade's rivers

About this tour

This session looks at Great War Island, left largely wild at the point where the Sava meets the Danube. You see its wooded shoreline from the bank and then the birdlife working the shallows nearby, with an explanation of why the island has stayed undeveloped. It stays along this stretch of riverbank throughout.

I keep the pace slow here and let the water and birdlife carry much of the session. Questions about the wildlife and the island's protected status are welcome throughout the call.

This suits anyone who wants a quieter, more natural side of Belgrade than the city centre offers. It also pairs well with the Ada Ciganlija session for a fuller picture of the rivers around the city.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Belgrade before heading out.

  2. Great War Island Shoreline 15 min

The camera looks across to the wooded island left mostly wild at the point where the Sava meets the Danube, and I explain why development here has always been limited.

  3. Birdlife Along the Bank 15 min

You see birds working the shallows near the island, and I point out which species pass through depending on the season.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Belgrade: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rakija and Zemun, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Belgrade time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
