The Berlin Airlift, told from the old runway
Highlights
- Planes landing every few minutes
- A monument shaped like three air corridors
- A city supplied entirely from the sky
- The blockade, explained at the runway
- Tempelhof's most famous chapter
About this tour
This session looks at the Berlin Airlift from the old Tempelhof runway and the memorial nearby. You see the length of the runway where cargo planes once landed roughly every few minutes to keep the city supplied during a Soviet blockade. The session finishes at a monument shaped like three curved prongs, representing the three air corridors used to fly supplies in.
We open with a short sound check at the runway's edge. I keep a fairly detailed pace and take questions about the blockade and the airlift's logistics throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the operation's scale and duration.
This suits anyone interested in Cold War history and large-scale logistics. It also works well alongside the wider Tempelhofer Feld session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
