Potsdamer Platz: rebuilt from a death strip
Highlights
- Empty land for nearly three decades
- A wall's path marked in cobblestones
- Glass towers over former border ground
- Potsdamer Platz's fast rebuilding
- A death strip turned modern square
About this tour
This session looks at Potsdamer Platz, from its modern glass towers to a preserved cobblestone line marking the wall's old path. You see a square that sat as open, empty land along the death strip for nearly three decades. The session finishes tracing the cobblestone line through what is now one of the city's busiest squares.
We open with a short sound check among the towers. I walk slowly along the cobblestone line and take questions about the rebuilding process throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on how quickly the area changed after 1990.
This suits anyone interested in postwar and post-wall urban redevelopment. It also works well before a walk toward Friedrichstraße nearby.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
