About this tour
This short session looks at Biarritz before it became a resort, when whaling rather than sea bathing brought people to this coast. You see the cliffside museum building and the rock formation just beyond it. It is a quick, focused look at an older layer of the town's history.
We spend most of the time outside the museum, where the cliff and the building together tell most of the story, then step onto the walkway for a shorter second stop. I explain the whaling history as we go rather than as a separate talk. A short note on the collection follows the call.
This suits anyone curious about Biarritz's history before tourism, and a good pairing with a beach-focused session on another day.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Biarritz before heading out.
-
Musée de la Mer exterior 15 min
The camera shows the museum built into the cliff face itself, opened in the 1930s to tell the story of the town's fishing and whaling past. I explain why whaling was once as important to Biarritz as tourism is now.
-
Rocher de la Vierge bridge 15 min
We finish on the walkway just below the museum, looking out toward the rock and the statue at its tip. I point out how the same currents that once brought whales close to shore now bring the swell surfers wait for.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Biarritz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Jambon de Bayonne and Saint-Charles, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
