Chartrons, old wine warehouses turned antique shops
Highlights
- Wide doors built for wine barrels
- A courtyard with its original beams
- A trading quarter turned antique district
- Tall stone warehouses, explained in detail
- A quieter side of the old docks
About this tour
This call walks the old wine-merchants' quarter, where tall warehouse buildings now hold antique dealers instead of barrels. You see a row of wide-doored frontages first, then step into a converted courtyard where the original beams are still visible. I explain how the quarter shifted from trade to its current, quieter use.
We move slowly along the street, pausing at shop windows and taking questions about the buildings' original purpose. A short note on what the quarter looked like a century ago follows by message.
This suits anyone interested in trade history or old architecture reused rather than replaced. It also works well alongside a riverside call on the same afternoon.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
