The Lanes, a maze of the old fishing quarter
Highlights
- Narrow alleys of an old fishing quarter
- Flint cottage walls still standing
- Jewellers set into former fishermen's homes
- A street layout barely changed in centuries
- An easy session for getting pleasantly lost
About this tour
This call walks a maze of narrow streets that were once the heart of the old fishing quarter, now filled with small independent shops. You see the tight flint-walled alleys first, then a corner known for its jewellers set into former cottages. I explain how the street layout has barely changed even as the buildings' uses have shifted completely.
We move slowly through the narrow turns, pausing at shopfronts and old doorways for questions along the way. A short list of the streets we covered follows by message.
This suits anyone who enjoys getting a little lost on purpose. It also works well as a lighter session between two longer historical calls.

You see a cluster of small jewellery shops set into former cottages, and I point out which buildings still show traces of their original, much humbler use.

-
A short list to keep 3 min

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
