About this tour

This session traces the comic strip murals painted across central Brussels, from a well-known character wall near the centre to a second mural on the edge of the Marolles. You see how the murals fill gaps left by demolished buildings, and pause outside the Horta-designed building that now holds the comic strip museum. It links a modern street art project to the city's older architecture.

We check sound at the first mural, since some of these streets carry traffic noise. I walk between the three stops at an easy pace, explaining one character or artist at each, and leave time for your questions throughout. A short list of the murals and where to find more follows by message afterwards.

It suits anyone interested in comic art, street art or the more playful side of Brussels. It also works well for families or fans of Belgian comics.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brussels before heading out.

  2. Rue de la Buanderie mural 17 min

The camera holds on a wall-sized mural of a well-known Belgian comic character, and I explain why Brussels has more than fifty of these painted through the centre.

  3. Belgian Comic Strip Center exterior 17 min

We stand outside the Horta-designed building that now holds the comic strip museum, and I point out the ironwork that ties it to the wider Art Nouveau story.

  4. Second mural, Marolles edge 17 min

We finish at a mural on the edge of the Marolles, and I talk through how the murals project started as a way to cover demolished building walls.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Brussels: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Carbonade flamande and Marolles, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Brussels time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
