  • Cannes's oldest quarter, climbed slowly
  • A view that reaches to the islands

About this tour

This walk climbs Le Suquet from the harbour to the church and watchtower at its summit, following lanes that have barely widened since the quarter was a fishing village. You see the plain, fortified style of Notre-Dame de l'Espérance and the view across the bay from beside it. It is a route built around climbing slowly rather than covering ground quickly.

We move at an unhurried pace given the steps, pausing longest at the terrace for the view. Questions come in throughout and I will double back for a second look at any doorway or detail someone asks about. A short list of what we saw follows the call.

This suits anyone who prefers old streets and a proper view to a packed itinerary. It also works well before or after a session down at the harbour for contrast.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cannes before heading out.

  2. The climb from the harbour 17 min

The camera follows the first steep steps up from the Vieux Port, walls giving way to narrower lanes the higher we climb. I point out how little the street plan has changed since the quarter was a fishing village.

  3. Notre-Dame de l'Espérance 17 min

At the top, you reach the seventeenth century church that gives the hill its skyline. I explain why it was built in this plain, fortified style rather than the more decorated churches lower down.

  4. The watchtower terrace 17 min

Just beside the church, the camera looks out from the terrace of the old watchtower across the whole bay. I point out how far the view reaches on a clear day and which islands are visible.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Cannes: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Socca and Le Suquet, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
