Belfast City Hall, a full circuit
Highlights
- A full circuit, not just the front
- A dome rising above the square
- Carved detail on every side
- Civic pride built into stone
- Belfast's centre explained on site
About this tour
This session walks a full circuit of Belfast City Hall, looking at both its grand Donegall Square front and a quieter side elevation most visitors never bother with. You see the Baroque Revival dome from the square and matching carved detail continued around the building's other sides. Aoife explains why the whole structure was built to this standard, not just its public face.
After a short sound check at the front, the session walks steadily around the building, with time for questions at each side. Aoife answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the grounds' war memorials.
It suits anyone interested in civic architecture and how a city presents itself through its buildings. It also works well as a first stop before exploring the surrounding streets.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Belfast before heading out.
-
The Donegall Square front 15 min
The camera holds on City Hall's grand Baroque Revival front, its dome rising above Donegall Square. Aoife explains when the building was completed and why the square became the city's centre.
-
A side elevation 15 min
Walking round to a quieter side of the building, the camera takes in the same care given to elevations most visitors never look at. Aoife points out matching detail carried right around the structure.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Belfast: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Soda bread and Titanic Quarter, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
