About this tour
This session traces Roman Napoca beneath the streets of modern Cluj-Napoca. You see excavated remains visible near the centre before the camera moves into the history museum, where I describe a few of the Roman-era objects the footage cannot always capture clearly. The walk finishes back on Union Square, standing over layers of the city most visitors never think about.
We open with a short sound check at the first excavation. I keep a formal, detailed pace and take questions about the Roman period as we go. Afterwards I send a short reading list for anyone wanting more detail.
This suits anyone with a serious interest in ancient history rather than only the medieval old town. It also works well paired with the Matthias Corvinus walk.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection
- Travel to the city
Itinerary

Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cluj-Napoca before heading out.

Traces of Roman Napoca 17 min
The camera stops where excavated Roman remains are visible near the centre, and I explain what is known about the city that stood here before Cluj.
-
Inside the history museum 17 min
We move to the museum, and I describe a few of the Roman-era objects on display, since the camera cannot always show them clearly.
-
Union Square, in context 17 min
The route finishes back on Union Square, and I point out how the medieval and Roman layers of the city sit almost directly on top of each other.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Cluj-Napoca: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Papanași and Mănăștur, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
