About this tour

This session follows a riverside park laid out for a trade exhibition over a century ago, now a green space along the Lee's north channel. You see the paths, planting and the museum building that survives from that original exhibition. It stays outdoors, moving at a relaxed pace along the water.

After a short sound check by the river, I walk the park stop by stop, pointing out what survives from its original 1902 layout before explaining its later history. I take questions live and send a short note afterwards on the museum's current collection for anyone who wants to visit.

It suits anyone who enjoys parks and gardens, and anyone curious about Cork's early 20th-century history.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cork before heading out.

  2. The riverside walk 21 min

The camera follows the path along the Lee's north channel, and I point out planting laid out for a trade exhibition held on this ground in 1902.

  3. Cork Public Museum building 21 min

You see the museum building from the park grounds, and I explain how the house was built for the same 1902 exhibition before becoming a permanent museum.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Cork: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tripe and onions and City Centre Island, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Dublin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
