About this tour

This session watches a working windmill turn on the edge of the old town, then follows the canal that once helped power the surrounding land. You see the sails in motion on a milling day and hear how a handful of mills like this survive on Dutch town edges today. It stays outdoors and close to the water throughout.

We start facing the mill, holding the frame steady on the turning sails before I explain how it works. From there we walk the canal path at an easy pace, and questions come naturally along the way. A short note on the mill's history follows by message.

It suits anyone who enjoys open-air, quieter sessions away from the busier squares. It also works well as a calm start or finish to a day otherwise spent in the old town.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Delft before heading out.

  2. Molen de Roos sails 15 min

The camera holds on the windmill's sails turning, and I explain how many working mills like this one remain on the edge of Dutch towns today.

  3. Canal path beside the mill 15 min

Following the canal away from the mill, you see how the water and the wind together once powered much of the surrounding land.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Delft: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bitterballen and Wippolder, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

  • Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
