About this tour
This session covers the churches of the Oltrarno, from the Brancacci Chapel's frescoes, described from outside since the chapel cannot be filmed, to Santo Spirito and its square. The camera takes in Brunelleschi's last church from its plain facade, moves toward the sacristy that holds Michelangelo's early wooden crucifix, and finishes in the square during its morning market. Two very different sides of Florentine religious art sit within a few streets of each other.
After a sound check, the walk moves from the Carmine to Santo Spirito in the order above, with the guide taking questions about the frescoes and the church's history throughout. A short note on how to visit the Brancacci Chapel afterwards goes out once the call ends.
This suits anyone with an interest in early Renaissance painting who wants the Brancacci story even without seeing the frescoes directly. It also suits anyone who enjoys a market square as much as the architecture around it.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 10 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Florence before heading out.
-
Santa Maria del Carmine, from outside 21 min
From outside the church that holds the Brancacci Chapel, the guide describes Masaccio's Expulsion from Paradise and the frescoes Filippino Lippi finished fifty years later, since the chapel itself stays behind closed doors on camera.
-
Santo Spirito facade 21 min
The camera takes in the plain facade of Santo Spirito, Brunelleschi's last church, and the guide explains why its interior proportions matter more than the unfinished front ever will.
-
Inside Santo Spirito 21 min
Inside the church, the camera moves toward the sacristy doorway, where the guide describes Michelangelo's wooden crucifix kept just beyond it, carved when the artist was still a teenager.
-
Santo Spirito square 21 min
Back outside, the camera crosses the square during its morning market, stalls set up in front of the same church for longer than most of the buildings around it have stood.
-
Your questions 18 min
Time to ask anything about Florence: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 8 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bistecca alla fiorentina and Santa Croce, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
