Sachsenhausen's Apfelwein taverns
Highlights
- Apfelwein served from stoneware jugs
- A tradition kept for generations
- Wood panelling marking older houses
- Two taverns compared side by side
- Local drinking culture, never tasted on camera
About this tour
This session compares two Apfelwein taverns in Sachsenhausen, explaining the region's tart cider tradition and the stoneware jugs it is served in, without any tasting shown on camera. You see the wood-panelled entrances of each and learn what separates a long-running house from a newer imitation. It moves between two nearby taverns.
We start at the first tavern and explain the tradition fully before moving to the second for comparison. I keep the tone relaxed to match the taverns themselves, and take questions as they come. A short note on the tradition follows by message.
It suits anyone curious about local drinking culture and its unwritten rules. It also works well as an evening session after an afternoon Eiserner Steg walk.

The camera holds on a traditional tavern's entrance, and I explain how Apfelwein is served in stoneware jugs and small glasses as part of a tradition here for generations.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
