Baklava, made by hand, on camera
Highlights
- Paper-thin dough layered by hand
- Many layers before the pistachio
- A tray cut into diamonds
- Timing judged by eye, not a recipe
- A dish most people only see finished
About this tour
This session shows baklava made by hand, from the dough layering to the finished tray going into the oven. You see paper-thin sheets stacked one at a time, then a tray already cut into diamonds ready for baking. The two stops trace a dish most visitors only ever see finished.
I begin with a sound check at the layering table, then we move to the oven while you ask questions about the process. I explain how the timing depends on experience rather than a written recipe. At the end I send a short note on the steps we saw.
This suits anyone curious about Gaziantep's most famous export beyond simply eating it. It also suits a home cook who wants to understand the technique before attempting a version themselves.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included
- Food and drinks shown on camera
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gaziantep before heading out.
-
Dough Layering 15 min
The camera looks closely at paper-thin dough being layered by hand, sheet by sheet. I explain how many layers go into a single tray before it is ready for pistachio.
-
Tray Into the Oven 15 min
You see a finished tray, cut into diamonds, going into the oven. I point out how the timing and heat are judged by eye rather than a fixed recipe.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Gaziantep: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Baklava (with Gaziantep pistachio) and Old Bazaar (Bakırcılar district), worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.
Questions about this tour
What will the session cover?
The guide walks through Gaziantep, showing you Dough Layering and Tray Into the Oven live on camera, plus whatever else you would like to see.
What happens if my connection drops?

Can I ask the guide questions during the session, or is it a fixed script?
Anything, any time. Sessions leave room for your own questions throughout, not just at the end.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
