About this tour

This session shows Tahmis Coffee House from its roasting corner to the serving counter, focused on menengiç, a coffee made from wild pistachio rather than coffee beans. You see the pistachios roasted and ground, then cups poured at a counter inside a building centuries old. The two stops connect the drink to the place that has served it for generations.

I begin with a sound check at the roasting corner, then we move to the counter while you ask questions about the drink and the building's history. I point out architectural details that hint at how old the coffee house actually is. At the end I send a short note on what we discussed.

This suits anyone curious about local food and drink beyond the usual kebab and baklava mentions. It also suits a traveller wanting a quieter, seated stop between busier sessions.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gaziantep before heading out.

  2. Roasting Corner 21 min

The camera looks at wild pistachios being roasted before grinding. I explain how menengiç coffee differs from coffee made with actual coffee beans.

  3. Serving Counter 21 min

You see cups being poured at the counter of a coffee house centuries old. I point out details in the building itself that hint at its age.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Gaziantep: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Katmer (pastry with pistachio and cream) and Old Bazaar (Bakırcılar district), worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
