About this tour

This session goes inside a Gdansk amber workshop, from raw stone to finished jewellery. You see pieces of raw Baltic amber under workshop light, the cutting table where a craftsperson shapes it, and finished pieces in a display case. It follows amber's journey through one small workshop rather than the shops on Mariacka Street.

I start with a sound check beside the raw stone, then move to the cutting table to show the shaping process before finishing at the display case. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on how to tell real amber from imitation.

This suits anyone curious about craft work or the amber trade specifically, beyond the shopfronts. It also pairs well with the Mariacka Street session for a fuller picture of the trade.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gdansk before heading out.

  2. Raw Amber, Up Close 17 min

You see pieces of raw Baltic amber under the workshop light, and I explain how it washes up along this coast after storms.

  3. The Cutting Table 17 min

The camera moves to the cutting table, and I show how a craftsperson shapes and polishes a piece of amber by hand.

  4. Finished Pieces on Display 17 min

In the display case, I point out finished jewellery pieces and explain how Gdansk's amber trade has continued for centuries despite changing styles.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Gdansk: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kielbasa and Main Town (Główne Miasto), worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
