Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis behind it
Highlights
- A cathedral that survived the Reformation
- A stone screen inside the nave
- Monuments climbing a Victorian hillside
- A memorial at the very top
- The whole city from one hill
About this tour
This session walks through Glasgow Cathedral's mediaeval nave before crossing into the Necropolis on the hill directly behind it. You see the stone choir screen inside the cathedral, monuments climbing the Necropolis hillside, and the full view over the city from the top. Robert explains how the cathedral survived the Reformation and why the Victorians chose this exact hill for their grandest memorials.
After a short sound check inside the cathedral, the session crosses to the Necropolis and climbs steadily to the summit, with questions welcomed at each stop. Robert answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the Necropolis's most notable monuments.
It suits anyone interested in Scotland's religious history and Victorian civic pride together in one session. It also appeals to those who enjoy dramatic city views.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
