About this tour

This session follows the oldest street in Guimarães from the castle down into the square that has anchored the city for centuries. Tiago points out the worn paving and the house marks cut into several doorways along the way. The walk ends at the Gothic shrine standing in the square, still on its original stone base.

Tiago keeps a steady pace down the slope, checking the picture stays level on the uneven stone. He points out details most locals stop noticing and takes questions as they come rather than saving them. A short note on the shrine's history follows the call.

This suits anyone who wants a feel for how the city actually grew, street by street, rather than a list of single landmarks. It also works well as an introduction before visiting the castle or palace on their own.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Guimaraes before heading out.

  2. Rua de Santa Maria 21 min

The camera follows the old street's granite paving down from the castle, its stone worn smooth by centuries of use. Tiago points out house marks carved into several doorways, left by medieval owners to mark their trade.

  3. Largo da Oliveira 21 min

The street opens into the square in front of the old collegiate church, its Gothic canopy shrine standing on stone columns. Tiago explains what the shrine commemorates and why the square kept its irregular shape.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Guimaraes: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Vinho Verde and Centro Histórico, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
