The ski jump, from a jumper's view
Highlights
- A ski jump explained by a former jumper
- The city ringed by mountains from above
- A steep in-run, seen up close
- History from a competitor's perspective
- Innsbruck's best overall view, explained
About this tour
This session looks at the Bergisel Olympic ski jump and the terrace beside it overlooking the city. You see the jump's steep in-run from below, then the wider view over Innsbruck and the mountains ringing it from the terrace. It stays on the hill rather than going into the museum building itself.
I explain the jump from a competitor's perspective, since I trained here myself as a teenager, then let the wider view do the talking from the terrace. Questions about the sport are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone curious about ski jumping from someone who has actually done it. It also suits anyone who wants one of the best overall views of Innsbruck explained properly.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Innsbruck before heading out.
-
Bergisel Ski Jump 21 min
You see the jump's steep in-run rising above the trees, and I explain what the run actually feels like from a jumper's position rather than from the terrace below.
-
Tirol Panorama Terrace 21 min
From the terrace beside the jump, the whole city and the mountain ring around it come into view, and I point out the battlefield below where fighting took place in 1809.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Innsbruck: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Speckknödel and Altstadt, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

- Join from any device: phone, tablet or laptop.
- We meet on Google Meet and the link comes with your booking. I competed in junior ski jumping here, so I explain the jump from a competitor's perspective rather than just a spectator's.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
