Highlights

  • A working mill turned modern museum
  • Mill wheels still turning today
  • One building, two very different uses
  • Industrial history beside contemporary art
  • A quiet island just off Charles Bridge

About this tour

This session covers Museum Kampa's exterior and the old mill wheels still turning on the stream beside it, showing how the island's industrial past shaped its present use. You see the museum building, once a working mill, then the wheels that once powered it and still turn today. It is a focused look at one building's change of use over time.

I start at the museum and move to the wheels for the second stop, explaining the mechanism as clearly as the camera allows. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to describe the mill's original process again if it is unclear. A short note on the museum's current exhibitions follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone interested in modern art or in how old buildings find new purposes. It also pairs well with the riverside walk session for a fuller visit to the island.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Prague before heading out.

  2. Museum Kampa exterior 15 min

The camera takes in the modern art museum's building, and I explain how a former mill became a home for contemporary Czech art.

  3. Old mill wheels 15 min

We move to the mill wheels still turning on the stream beside the museum, and I explain how they once powered the building's original use.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Prague: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Trdelník and Josefov, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Prague time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
