About this tour

This session covers the Hot Spring and the Mill Colonnade that shelters it, the two features that explain why Karlovy Vary exists at all. You see the spring shoot up inside its glass-roofed hall, then move along the colonnade to hear about the architect who also designed Prague's National Theatre. It is a focused look at the spa town's oldest reason for being.

I open with a quick sound check by the spring itself, since the hall can echo. We then move stop by stop along the colonnade, and I take questions as we go rather than saving them for the end. A short note on the town's other springs follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone curious about why a spa town built itself around hot water rather than a river or a coast. It also works well as a first session before exploring the wider colonnades on a longer call.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Karlovy Vary before heading out.

  2. Vřídlo colonnade 21 min

The camera looks into the glass-roofed hall where the Hot Spring shoots up in a column of near-boiling water, and I explain why the town grew up around this exact spot.

  3. Mlýnská kolonáda 21 min

We move along the Mill Colonnade, and I point out that its architect also designed Prague's National Theatre, a detail most visitors never hear.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Karlovy Vary: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Karlovarské oplatky (large spa wafers) and Lázeňské území, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Prague time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
