Spa wafers and the market colonnade
Highlights
- Wafers pressed on old iron moulds
- A colonnade built over a market
- A pattern stamped fresh, still warm
- Everyday spa culture, not just hotels
- Wooden columns over mineral springs
About this tour
This session follows the Market Colonnade and a working wafer bakery nearby, two stops that explain the town's everyday spa culture rather than only its grand hotels. You see the ornate wooden colonnade built over the market springs, then watch a baker press wafers on an old iron mould. It is a shorter, food-focused look at Karlovy Vary.
I start on the colonnade itself and move to the bakery a few minutes later, timing the second stop so the iron moulds are usually in use. Questions come throughout rather than at a fixed point, since the bakery stop tends to raise a few of its own. I send a short note afterwards on where to find the wafers if you visit.
It suits anyone who wants to understand the town beyond its most photographed buildings. It also works well paired with a longer history session on the same day.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Karlovy Vary before heading out.
-
Tržní kolonáda 15 min
The camera takes in the ornate wooden colonnade built over the market springs, and I explain how it replaced the town's original 19th-century market stalls.
-
A wafer bakery on Lázeňská 15 min
We stop by one of the bakeries pressing spa wafers on old iron moulds, and I show the pattern stamped into each one before it cools.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Karlovy Vary: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Becherovka (herbal liqueur made in the town) and Nová Louka, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
