About this tour

This session walks the old quarter of Vegueta, founded in 1478 as the first Spanish settlement on Gran Canaria, from the cathedral square to the courtyard of Casa de Colón. Marta's camera follows the stonework and the coats of arms that survive on doorways most visitors pass without looking up. Along the way she stops in the Plaza del Espíritu Santo, one of the quieter corners of the old town.

The call opens with a short sound check before Marta starts walking from the cathedral. She moves at a steady pace between the three stops, pausing to answer questions live rather than saving them for a wrap up, and she sends a short list of the buildings covered once the call ends.

The tour suits anyone curious about how a five-hundred-year-old street grid still shapes a modern city. It works well for viewers who prefer history explained through buildings rather than dates on a page.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria before heading out.

  2. Catedral de Santa Ana 21 min

The camera looks up at the cathedral's mixed facade, Gothic bones under later additions, and Marta points out where the stone changes colour between building phases that took centuries to finish.

  3. Casa de Colón 21 min

Inside the courtyard of the old governor's house, you see the balconies where Columbus is said to have stayed before his 1492 crossing, and Marta explains what in that story is documented and what is legend.

  4. Plaza del Espíritu Santo 21 min

A small square with a stone fountain, tucked between two quiet streets, where Marta shows the carved coat of arms on a nearby doorway and talks about the families who once lived on this block.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Papas arrugadas con mojo and Vegueta, worth a slower look.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
